No6. The 50’s Kelly

22nd March 2017

When it came to designing the range, we decided on some golden rules to work within for each silhouette…

  • Designing with an era in mind, each era would include two silhouettes, both classic, elegant and wearable
  • All of the additional details would be compatible with every silhouette in our range
  • Every design combination would strike the perfect balance of glamour and femininity
  • Every silhouette is open to adaptation by the bride, to best suit her style and her wedding

This design ticks all the 50’s boxes! Strapless, boned bodice and full circle, tea length skirts: the bodice has a gentle sweatheart shaped neckline, fitting like a glove through the princess line seams. The full circle skirt sits on the waist, and has such an abundance of volume in its hem, it has a life of its own! The netted petticoat is the foundation this skirt needs to achieve this full and luxurious look. The skirt hems are bound and hand finished with bias binding, and buttons and loops complete this traditional design perfectly.

A choice of skirt makes all the difference to this look. There’s a simple and stunning satin finish, or a soft and full tulle finish; a delicate and gentle chiffon, or exquisitely ornate Chantilly lace. The overlaid skirts are backed with satin, and all skirts are lined. The underskirt hems are completed with hand finished bias binding. The net petticoat also has a bias binding finish, so there’s the opportunity to add flashes of colour to your look.

Your choice of sash will complete the design, beautifully emphasising the nip of the waist. This design is stunning on all shapes: light, young, and profoundly feminine.

We intend to develop this design further by introducing velvet, additional floral and beaded detail motifs, drapes and ruching to the bodice.
